I\u0026amp;#39;ve been liberated in this new phase of life to pursue my love of photography.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFor the last 30 years I\u0026amp;#39;ve never been able to get out West as much as I wanted. One thing about getting older is that the beauty and peace found in nature becomes more appealing. I soon found myself in the vast, open and deserted prairies of Wyoming!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere are only about 150 horses in 120,000 acres of wilderness! You can go days without seeing a horse. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnd they can run a lot faster than me... hard to catch!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt\u0026amp;#39;s 110Fº in the day, (43 Cº!) and freezing cold at night. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBut I\u0026amp;#39;m nothing if not patient, when it matters to me.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe set up camp in a small unprotected tent in the middle of nowhere, at the mercy of the elements. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eTrue wild west.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI was up until midnight, shooting the beautiful stars and Milky Way.. you could see millions of bright stars, far away from any city lights. It was truly magical. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eChilling coyote howls swept across the plains, reminding us that we\u0026amp;#39;re not in Kansas anymore!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe incredibly dry air swept through, making the cracked ground beneath my boots crunch with each step. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe extremely dry air chapped our lips, so bad it took weeks of Burts Bees to recover from!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe wind kicked up the dust and the air was thick with the smell of rich earth. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMy wife and I went to bed and woke up at the crack of dawn. The prairie was so flat that the entire sky was filled with the sun\u0026amp;#39;s red glow hours before you actually saw it come over the horizon.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe rolled out of our tent to get our can of coffee, and get the morning started off right when  suddenly I felt something to my right, a shadow, a presence. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI whipped around and came face to face with a wild horse not eight feet from me!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe completely forgot about the taste of coffee, and we quietly followed the horse as it slowly walked away. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe continued to gently follow at a distance. We didn\u0026amp;#39;t move more than 100 feet... when we spotted another horse coming from another direction, and then another horse. And then another one, and another, and another!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt seemed like dozens of horses were all converging on this one spot!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSuddenly a violent fight broke out!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e2 horses fought each-other over access to the watering hole!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis happened a total of 5 times! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNo horse was seriously injured though and things calmed down seemingly as fast as they began. A total of 38 horses gathered to drink, harmoniously and peacefully after their brief skirmishes. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI spent a total of 3 hours, burning through memory card after memory card, capturing unforgettable images that I know I will never get the chance to ever see again!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThese horses would walk right by us, as long as we simply stood our ground, they allowed our presence, and allowed us for hours to be part of their personal social circle! Baby horses would even fall asleep nearby, with their parents guarding over them as they slept.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSome of these images were so up close, personal, raw and real that I felt like at times I was watching a movie. I was in simple disbelief that this was happening.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHumans never get to see this kind of thing!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe spent DAYS looking for horses to no avail, and here we accidentally camped 100 yards from a huge central watering hole!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe emotional connection with these incredible creatures was as intimate as I\u0026amp;#39;ll ever experience with completely wild horses. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI captured hundreds of pictures, dozens of which are now hanging on people\u0026amp;#39;s walls around the world, but the emotional journey and disbelief of getting to witness such rare events... has forever changed me and my love for horses.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOriginal photography by Tim West Photography.
